Innocent Sh*$

I know the day is going to come where Nick learns a bad word or two. Either from me, someone at school, tv...how he hasn't picked one up yet is anyone's guess. One day he came home from school and said "Ms. G said a bad word today by accident!" I excitedly asked what she said and Nick said he didn't know. "How'd you know it was a bad word?" "J and C told me". Ha!

So the other night Nick says "Mom, I know the SH word. But it's bad, right?" "Uh yep. Does it rhyme with fit" "No, it sounds like up" Huh? I asked him to whisper it to me and he wouldn't get in trouble. And he whispered "shut up". Yep bud, that's a bad word - woo hoo!

Eagle Eyes

When Nick had his eye exam this summer, the doctor told us that he'll most likely need glasses by January. His 6 year check up in December confirmed that he couldn't see diddly off the eye chart. (That appointment is another good story - a boy getting self conscious of being naked in front of others won't walk to the scale in his underwear in front of the nurse...) So off we went to our regular eye doctor a few weeks ago. Who confirmed that the boy is seeing just fine and doesn't need glasses. Maybe next year, but not now. Woo hoo! I had been gearing Nick up for glasses that day, so I was so excited to tell him he had eagle eyes and didn't need glasses. Well, he can't stop talking about his eagle eyes now. "Hey mom, I can see like six different things out of my one eye!"

The Bulls

N: Mom, we learned about a guy at school today! He's dead now.
H: Oh, who was it?
N: Michael Jordan!
H: Michael Jordan? The basketball player? He's not dead.
N: No! He didn't play basketball! And he is dead.
H: Yes he did. He played for the Bulls.
N: No he didn't!
H: Ok, we're not talking about the same guy. What else did you learn about this guy?
N: Ummmmmmm...
H: (hmmm, what time of the year is it and what could they be learning????) Wait, Martin Luther King Jr.?
N: Yes! That's him!

Poop

Nick, Peri, me and my mom were in the car last week. My mom ran into the UPS store for a box while we waited in the car. A horrible smell started to make it's way through the car. Poor Peri was asleep so we blamed it on her. By the time my mom came back to the car, Nick was yelling out the window "It smells like poop in here!" We decided that when we got home we'd have to wake her up to change her diaper rather than let her stew in whatever nonsense was in that diaper. Well, we pull up to the house and Nick pops out of the car in his spider rain boots and runs up the stairs. Then I hear my mom saying "Oh dear, oh dear!" All over the back seat floormat, back of the passenger seat and elswhere was dog poop. Nick had spread it all over the place as he swung his feet around. Oh, why didn't I take C's car that day?

Nick's Christmas Break

Nick had two weeks off of school for the holiday. Description below of our first day. No wonder I'm exhausted...

• H slept in til 7:30
• N slept in til 7:45
• P slept in til 8:10
• Tried to get everyone dressed so we could go out for pancakes. But housekeepers were coming and I needed to clean the house. Oh yes...
• Ended up making pancakes at home. Kids didn't eat them.
• Made it out the door around 11am to drop off dry cleaning and gifts to the dry cleaners.
  
• Peri peed her pants before we made it into the dry cleaners. One stop in and we have to head home?
• Went to dry cleaners anyway. The kids were to shy to give the gifts. Sigh.
• Nick whined about lunch and how we were supposed to go out for lunch.
  
• Went to Burger King for lunch. Tried for drive through since Peri full of pee, but ended up inside. This is why you don't eat off booths or chairs...
• Burger King full of people who apparently were going to spend the day there. Man behind us was asleep. Food was gross. Will never eat at BK again.
• Came home to some treats from our neighbor!
• Peri finally went down for a nap. Turned into a 2 1/2 hour one!
• Nick and I played Angry Birds, Wii Dance, FlingSmash for 3 hours. My arms were so tired.

Happy New Year

Peri made a New Year's hat at school. They said she was one of the only kids who would wear their hat. Too bad I left it at school by accident after wrestling her into her coat.
