Race Car Driver
Remember Nick saying he wanted to be a race car driver in his graduation speech? Well, one of the days of "Spirit Week" at school last week was "when I grow up". Oh yes, Nick and Chris created an awesome race car outfit!

One
Sorry, still talking about Peri turning one. How exciting! What rocks about turning one?
- your sleep deprived parents kept you alive for 12 months!
- you get to drink real milk from the grocery store
- you get to face forward in your car seat (in an adorable new car seat cover from Mom-Mom & Pop-Pop)
- you can eat big girl food
- your chunky thighs and big belly are still totally acceptable and even considered adorable

Aunt Ta-Ta visits!
My sister and her fiancé came into town this weekend. We subjected them to a weekend full of block parties and tball games, but they were good sports and played along. Peri loves her some Aunt Shannon. The looks here aren't sad, but of pure relaxation. I couldn't show the smiley one of Peri because Auntie was still recovering from the second block party and didn't want her face in the photo.

School List!
Who was more excited about the back to school supply list, Nick or Heather? HEATHER! Boy do I love office supplies. Maybe Nick will get excited once he gets to school.

Independent boy
We’ve been teaching Nick to be more independent. When he wants donut holes after school (give a working mom a break – I sometimes forget car snack and this is on the way!) I’ve been giving him the money and sending him in to order himself. He looks so proud when he emerges from DD with donuts and change in hand. Heck, he looks proud just to open the front door of DD by himself. No worries – I’m sitting right at the front door so that no one can get our little guy.

Big girl!
Some photos of the birthday girl. She seemed to have an extra big smile on her face and an extra scoot in her crawl on Tuesday like she knew it was her special day.
But when dinner/gift time came around, she had a puzzled look on her face but was game enough to humor us. Nick helped her open her gifts. She was not amused by the traditional Nordloh birthday hat. Hmmm, actually no one but me seems amused by that hat...
She was outright angry about not getting to touch the candles. See big brother helping?
Her mermaid toy and plastic girl (to go in the pink car!) were her favs.
For someone who’s never had cake, she didn’t even balk at the strawberry cupcake we put in front of her. Just dug in and sucked the icing/goodness off her hands.

Happy Birthday Peri!
Baby Peri is one year old today! Fat and happy as ever. No, the book isn't where we got her name. Found out about it a few months ago and snagged a copy from the 30s! Perri, the girl squirrel - how cute!
Here's our squirrel on her way home from the hospital...
Home with mom...
Another week older!
Paternity leave with dad - 3 months old...

The Real Story
You remember the story of Nick falling down the stairs? "I was climbing up the stairs and down the stairs and then I fell down the stairs." Well Nick and Chris were discussing the fall last week and the second part of the story came out that Nick had actually been trying to fly down the stairs. Yep.
"After the hockey game I was going up the stairs and then down the stairs, then up the stairs and then down the stairs, then i tripped and then I falled. I was going to fly on the second time, but I falled and it was too late for me to jump and fly."
Glad he didn't give the extended version to the emergency room.

Sunday Picnic
I had a great idea Sunday night - let's have a picnic dinner at the beach!
Apparently 4000 other people had the same great idea. After one hour of sitting in traffic to get to the beach (which is barely two miles from our house) we finally made it. I ended up dropping Chris and the kids off while I went in search of parking. Finally decided to follow a couple to their car.
H: Rolls window down"Are you leaving? Mind if I follow you to your car?"
T: "Yes, but we're parked in the next row over"
H: "Oh. Ok." Window rolls up. Pause. Pause. Pause. Window rolls down. "Can I give you a ride to your car?"
Ten minutes later, I had a parking spot!
Peri had her first tastes of sand.
Nick had fun venturing into the water to collect buckets needed for the volcano.
Chris and I were able to forget about work, errands and the half built deck while we built sandcastles, enjoyed sandy PBJ sandwiches and a beautiful sunset.

Healing Bone
The cast is off! After four weeks, we were back at the doctor's for more x-rays. Seems the break was right above the growth plate which means fast healing! Four more weeks with a splint which means he can swim, bath and run. But still no hitting or crazy boy jumping. Looks like he'll be playing in the right outfield for 4 more weeks. He is so happy to be out there again!
The handed me the nasty, stinky cast after they took it off. I gladly handed it back and told them we'd taken photos to remember it by. (I drew the snake)

Umpire
My dad is an umpire for Little League Baseball, so we were able to see him in action during our visit in June. With all his equipment on, Nick didn't recognize him and kept saying "That's not Pop-Pop." During a water break, I took Nick over so he could see that it was indeed Pop-Pop.
Back on the bleachers:
N: Is Pop-Pop being silly?
H: No, Pop-Pop is being serious.
N: Do these people know he's silly?
H: Nope, they think he's serious.
N: So we're the only ones who know he's really silly? (big grin)
